Kathleen passed away Sunday, January 21,2024 at Perry Lutheran Home Eden Acres. D. Kathleen Andrews was born on August 1,1925 in rural Redfield, IA., the daughter of Gilman J. and Dorothy D. (Hammond) Turner. She graduated from Linden High School with the class of 1942. After graduation she worked a year in Adel and then enrolled at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA to get her teaching certificate. Kathleen taught for one year at Washington Township School. Kathleen married J. Howard Andrews on February 11,1947 at St Patrick Catholic Church. They lived together on the family farm west of Washington Township School for 64 years until Howard’s death on July 17,2011. Kathleen remained on the farm until she moved to Eden Acres in 2019. Kathleen enjoyed keeping up with current events through the newspaper, reading books and watching sports of all kinds on television. Burial will follow at Violet Hill Cemetery. Visitation, with family greetings friends, will be from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Mavis passed away Monday, February 12. 2024 at the Lutheran Home Eden Acres. Mavis Ann Parcel was born in Perry, Iowa on November 2, 1926 and passed away peacefully in Perry on February 12, 2024. She was raised on the farm across from the radio station by her parents George and Carrie Inez (Bryant) Parcel. She met Rober Kuehl through 4-H and they were married on March 14, 1948 in Perry. They bought a farm outside Jamaica and had two daughters, Maureen and Coral. Mavis sold the farm after Roger passed away in 1957. She purchased a house in Perry and worked for the Perry Community Schools from 1958 until the spring of 1973. She then worked for the Federal Land Bank as office manager and then at each of the three nursing homes in Perry as the dietitian. Mavis married John Struyk on July 6, 1969 in Perry after his wife Dorothy passed away from cancer. The family was expanded to include his children, John, Lydia “Ruth” and Marilyn. She is much loved and will be greatly missed by her daughter Racheale and son-in-law George Eichhorn, her sister Pam Tellman, niece Barbara Garrett (Dre) and nephew Tim Garrett (Elsa). She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Raymond, parents George and Faye McLellan, and two brothers-in law Stephen S. Garrett and Robert Tellman. Dixie Lee spent many years doing what she loved most. She was a Graduate and Master of the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. She had her own dance school in Perry. She taught for many years the children from Perry, Adel, Yale, Bouton, Granger, Woodward, Bayard, Minburn and Jamaica with dance recitals at the Perry Junior High School each Spring. She had a passion for Miniature Schnauzers – Tigger, Gideon, Gracie, Oscar, Tobias, Faddle and Otis. All knew what it meant to be loved by “Perry Mama”. She was always so kind and gentle with them and each one was always spoiled rotten. Some of her favorite memories are from her Grandfather Leo Walker’s farm in Jamaica where he farmed with two pair of belgian draft horses. Her memories of farm life were so rich and wonderful, she had a print by Cynthia Baldauf of a belgian horse team hanging over her piano. Her twinkling ... (Anderson) Palmer. He passed away Wednesday, April 17,2024 at Lutheran Home Eden Acres Campus, Perry, IA. Most of Lyle’s working life he spent moving furniture for North American Van Lines and Redeker’s Furniture. He moved to Perry in 2017 after living in Boone and the Dennison areas. Lyle loved to go fishing and liked working on cars. The family would like to thank the health care workers and employees at Eden Acres for their care and friendship during his residence there the past six months. He was under Sun Crest Hospice at the time of his passing.
