Accessibility Statement

Every Iowan is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities.

Accessibility Features

  • Keyboard navigation — All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard. Dropdown menus support arrow keys, Escape, and Tab navigation.
  • Skip navigation — A “Skip to main content” link is provided at the top of every page.
  • Semantic HTML — Proper heading hierarchy, landmark roles, and ARIA attributes are used throughout.
  • Reduced motion — All animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query.
  • Screen reader support — Form labels, image alt text, and ARIA live regions are implemented for assistive technology compatibility.
  • Color contrast — Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios.
  • Responsive design — The site adapts to all screen sizes and works with zoom up to 200%.

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. We are actively working on improvements, including:

  • Some older bulletin board posts may contain user-submitted content that is not fully accessible.
  • Third-party embedded content (Stripe checkout, OAuth sign-in) follows the accessibility standards of their respective providers.
