In the summer of 1961, a small taco shop opened its doors on Easton Boulevard in Des Moines, Iowa. Founded by Richard and Antonia Mosqueda with a family recipe and just a $500 loan, Tasty Tacos began as a modest takeout operation where Antonia ran the kitchen while Richard juggled his day job as a barber. Family owned and operated for over 60 years, Tasty Tacos now has six flourishing restaurants in and around the Des Moines metro. They describe themselves as "a fast serve restaurant, not fast food," emphasizing homemade food prepared fresh daily using quality ingredients. The business has been voted by CITYVIEW for "Best Local Mexican Food," "Best Local Tacos," and "Best Local Place for a $5 Lunch."[2]
