Drowning is a leading cause of death for children ages 1-4. Keep your family safe around water this summer. Pool safety: - Never leave children unattended near water — not even for a moment - Designate a "water watcher" at every gathering - Learn CPR — it saves lives - Enroll kids in swim lessons (check your local pool or YMCA) Lake and river safety: - Wear life jackets (Iowa law requires them for children under 13 on boats) - Never swim alone - Don't swim in flooded areas — currents are unpredictable - Avoid alcohol around water Iowa pool and swim lesson info: Check everyiowan.com for your local pool's schedule.
